Which Equipment does my dog need to Train ?

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

You don't need a lot of equipment to train a dog. However, I will often recommend specific tools more adapted to your dog or his behavior to simply make training a better experience for you and your dog. The key is to enhance your dog training and optimize the results in the long term.

But, keep in mind, the very best training tool is still a strong bond based on trust (and yummy treats do help)

A Slip Lead is a great tool to train for certain behaviors, such as lunging, mouthing on the leash, or resisting the leash. What I love about this is that it adjusts to the size of any dog's neck and make it impossible for them to back out of them. They are super easy to put in and out so very practical when crate training.

Herm Sprenger Prong Dog Collar

There is a lot of misconception and strong opinion about prong collars, and before becoming a dog trainer I was truly opposed to them until I saw how game changing those are and how much results we get. At the end of the day, It's all about making the walks enjoyable for the dogs and their parents. I often tell my clients, it's like going from a Hyundai to a Tesla. The Herm Sprenger prong collar is the gold standard for leash training for reactive and aggressive dogs, and this is one of the most recognizable and popular obedience training tools. The prong collar puts even pressure around the neck, about every half inch, pinching the skin in a band. This collar does not apply direct pressure to the trachea so you can train your dog with little or no tugging, jerking, or pulling.

BARK COLLAR You got a barker and the neighbors are starting to bark back? The # 1 recommended by professional trainers, This is a top quality, solidly constructed anti-bark collar with good contact point so it works. Period. The lighting system indicates the status of the battery, which is super helpful. The YS600 is for a a larger dog 35 pounds and up, while the YS 300 was for dogs up to 35 pounds

E-Collar- Small to Medium dogs

This DOGTRA model is super reliable, durable and one of the best tool for behavior modification. Whether training in rain or snow, it has a 1/2-mile range and I recommended it for smaller breeds with mild to medium temperaments.

E-Collar- Medium to Large dogs

Used by most professional trainers, this DOGTRA model is perfect for medium to large dogs from 35 pounds and up. What I like best is that it is waterproof so it works well at the beach or lake and it has a 3/4-mile range so perfect when hiking too- This is suitable for all breeds with mild to most stubborn temperament.
